ISS were asked by Schneider Electric to complete the installation and pre-commissioning of an 8 panel 11kV switchboard and two 11,000/433 Midel transformers at Hammersmith Hospital on their behalf.
Due to the problems encountered by the end client, Schneider were only able to give ISS two days notice for these works, in which time we were able to perform a site survey, and subsequently mobilise an installation & commissioning team kitted out for positioning, installation and pre-commissioning the transformers and switchgear.
The equipment delivery took place at 22.00 hours on a Thursday evening, and all equipment was to be installed and pre-commissioned by 18.00 on the Sunday, ready for energisation Monday morning.
On the Thursday night all equipment was offloaded and positioned in the substations in accordance with client approved General Arrangement drawings. The installation team returned to site the following day and began erecting the Schneider Electric Genie Evo switchboard.
Once the switchboard (see Fig. 1) was erected, busbars assembled and bus wiring installed the testing and pre-commissioning commenced.
Whilst the switchboard testing was underway the installation team began final positioning and installation of the transformers. Due to the space restrictions in the substation the transformers had to be delivered with the Midel fluid drained and radiators loose. Once the transformers were positioned the radiators were fitted and Midel fluid pumped into the transformer, and testing and pre-commissioning was carried out. This was all done in conjunction with cabling and other enabling works.
Works were successfully completed on target, with client protection settings installed onto the 11kV protection relays and tested, and the new distribution system was put into service on Monday morning as planned.
The client praised ISS, thanking us for our flexibility and positive approach which enabled this project to be turned around efficiently, on budget and on time.
ISS were later ask to return to site on behalf of Schneider Electric and carry out further modifications and commissioning to SCADA system, which again was successfully and further cemented what was a successful project for all concerned.
